Robot

The newly developed humanoid robot from Tesla called Optimus displayed intricate dance motions while illustrating how well it handles balance and moves while walking.

IMU is necessary in humanoid robots, which is used in detecting and stabilizing the robot. It is mainly applied in three areas: balance maintenance, navigation, and motion execution. Tesla is still preparing to increase the growth rate of the Optimus humanoid robot, which will put greater demand in the market for IMUs.

Role of IMU in Humanoid Robots

Tesla’s Optimus demonstrated complex dance movements, highlighting its superior abilities in balance control and walking navigation, where IMU technology played a vital role. IMU is responsible for maintaining balance, navigation, and motion execution, helping robots stay stable and perform precise movements.

Structure and Working Principle of IMU

IMU comprises acceleration sensors and gyroscopes sensors to determine an object’s motion manner, speed, and position. That, using a gyroscope and accelerometer systems, it is possible to obtain such critical navigation data as coordinate shift and speed from the starting point.

This provides IMU with high precision and reliability, allowing it to work independently even in extreme environments and without external signals, making it resistant to interference.

IMU’s Features

IMU boasts high accuracy and independent functionality. In the field of robotics, IMU helps robots maintain balance and stability during complex actions, ensuring accurate and smooth postures.

IMU Demand in Humanoid Robots

Humanoid robots typically use 2 to 4 IMUs, placed in key positions such as the head, feet, and hips. As Tesla accelerates the mass production of Optimus, the demand for IMUs is also expected to increase.

Besides high-precision IMUs, humanoid robots also rely on reliable robot wiring harnesses to connect sensors, controllers, and communication modules throughout the system. Well-designed wiring harnesses help reduce installation complexity, improve signal stability.
